World Food Day in Buea: EEI Visits St. Joseph Foundation Orphanage

On 16 October 2026, members and volunteers of Equal Education Initiative (EEI) visited St. Joseph Foundation Orphanage in Bokova, Buea, Cameroon. The visit took place on World Food Day, while another EEI team was holding a programme in Thailand.

The Cameroon visit was centred on being present with the people at the orphanage. The team met with a representative of the home, spent time in the shared living space and gathered with the children outside.

Meeting the people behind the place

Some of the photographs are group portraits. Others are quieter: a conversation around a table, children sitting nearby, a team member writing in a book. World Food Day information sheets can also be seen in the photographs.

These details matter because visits like this are not just about an organisation arriving with its name on a shirt. They are an opportunity to meet people, understand the setting and make room for conversation.

Care and learning are connected

EEI works to widen access to education, practical skills and mentorship. That work cannot be separated entirely from children’s daily lives. Food, safety and dependable adult support all affect the conditions in which children learn.

World Food Day provided a reason to come together and pay attention to those needs. The visit is one part of EEI’s community work, rather than a claim that one afternoon can address every challenge.

EEI thanks the team at St. Joseph Foundation Orphanage for receiving its members and volunteers, and everyone who made time for the visit.
